UH HUH HER- a band review

Camila Grey and Leisha Hailey, also known as the Indie- electro pop duo from Uh Huh Her performed yesterday, Wednesday Nov. 1st as part of their Keep A Breast Tour to a full house at House of Blues on Sunset in Hollywood.

Grey, a current member of Adam Lambert’s live band, and experienced bass and keyboards player, impressed with some fine vocal solos while Hailey who you may recognize as Alice Pisczecki from the Showtime series the L word charmed the audience with her genuine smile, bass and some back up singing.

Even though both artists seem astronomically in contrast in their persona they both seem to share the same passion for music on stage as well as their passion for motorcycles, dark chocolate and the artist Bjork in private.

After some engaging videos from the Keep A Breast foundation and its Keep your boobies campaign which promotes early detection and education of breast cancer through art events and educational programs, Jarrod Gorbel took the stage as the opening act on his acoustic guitar with melodic songs and accompanied by a young talented violinist who added much to setting the right note for the evening and prepping the audience to receive Uh Huh Her.

The girls played a strong hour set from their new and only second album called Nocturne that Camila and Wendy Melvoin (Prince& the Revolution) produced and Plaid Records had released.

Having added some rock infused flavor with more drums to their traditional synth-sounds conveyed a variety of moods that resulted in a beautiful arrangement of sounds and harmony on stage.

Nocturne, a very old term applied to a musical composition inspired by the night and generally thought of as being tranquil and lyrical, seemed in the case of Uh Huh Her more expressive and less gloomy.

The savvy duo having survived the split from their manager, going independent and spending three years of making their album their way, seemed better and more dynamic than ever. The girls are performing tonight in San Francisco.
