Welcome to Oceanside!
The best way to end a beautiful 'high of 75' San Diego day, is at Ruby's on the Oceanside Pier.
Oceanside, not especially known for it's traveler-quenching culture or amazing food, seems to redeem itself with the famous Oceanside Pier.
While, to locals, the pier seems banal and usual, well-versed tourists can tell you that it happens to be the longest wooden pier on the west coast. What locals can tell you, however, is how divinely amazing it is to eat at the diner that terminates the 2000 foot pier.
The ideas for Ruby's diner was born in the early 80s. Doug Cavanaugh had returned to his SoCal home after running a restaurant in Nantucket off of Cape Cod. While brainstorming business ideas with his father, he came up with the idea for a 50s diner, and the rest.. as they say.. is history!

Nostalgic of the swingin 50's, these classic coke advertisements are all over Ruby's.

Classic Ruby Cheeseburger and a small drink.
Ruby's does not accept reservations, but I reccomend eating around sunset. Check sunset time before you make your trip, and allow plenty of time to get to the restaurant. Ruby's offers inside (upper and lower level) and outside dining, whichever would make your dining experience most enjoyable. The staff are really friendly, and they'd love to watch your table while you stroll around the west end of the pier to watch the sun setting.

Oceanside Pier as the sun sets.

Take Pacific Coast Highway north to Pier View Way and turn left.
So next time you are in North County.. take a trip to Oceanside and eat at Ruby's on the Pier! Oceanside's little gem...
